This is the 3rd day of warm weather in this area which mean's lot's of activity wasp's and bee's alike .. i tried to rattle a good few pictures of but my camera decided to play up so this is the best i could manage..propolis / pollen and nectar is being brought in at a steam of knot's .. so with the good weather and feeding by me the winter stores will be good soon enough.. does any one know what the tree is with the little green ball's and hard catkin type head's as the wasp' and bee's like it.. the other picture's of flower's are from the field's surrounding the hive which get planted every year..

Thank's for the replies but it's not hazel ..if it was i would have chopped a load of straight walking stick's from it by now.. lol.

shame your not closer, I have stacks of it
 
Hi all,
Hazel is not a good tree for bee forage, so don't plant for that purpose. The pollen grains are small and difficult for the bees to collect unless there is no wind. They will only go for it if nothing else is available and to date I have not seen any bees on all the hazel in my area.
 
The pollen of Hazel (like the pollen of many other wind pollinated plants) doesn't contain a full range of the essential amino acids required by the honey bee so is only of limited nutritional value.

You can see this year's fruit (the brown "cone"), next year's female catkins (the round green ones) and next year's long male catkins....which are the ones the bees like.
