Apparently thymol is derived from the herb thyme, would putting pieces of thyme in the hive have a similar effect? Anyone tried it?

Perhaps you could put some in with the rhubarb leaf?

Yeghes da

and ad some ants as well ;-).

what is being suggested is that there is a big difference between a source of and the actual concentrated chemical. Gelatin is made of pig skin but you can not make gummy bears by adding sugar to pigs ears...

but by all means, add a few sprigs and monitor the mite drop but first run it through pubmed to see if it has not been tried before...

At the concentrations to be effective I don't think putting thyme in a hive is going to help much tbh

Bees are always on my thyme bush in the garden, they seem to really like it but I doubt the concentration levels are high enough to make a difference.

not quite of topic. I was advised to put on some Apiguard by my local bee inspector, I've never used it before and followed all instructions with floor slide in, 1 tray on brood frames eke in place. It was put on in the evening.
today all the bees are outside the hive on both my hives. is it a normal reaction to Apigrard ?

Especially if it's a warm day and the vapours are releasing well when the tray is fresh. I think it needs to be above 15c to be at best effectiveness. I may be a tad off with the temp.

They Really hate the stuff, one of the reasons I don't use it anymore
