Virgins are hell to find so I too would wait and when she starts to lay she will be a lot more obvious and who knows she might be a very good Q.

So if I find the elusive virgin - I'll need to check there aren't more in there before risking my bought in queen..... Ideas anyone?

Put an excluder against the entrance. Then shake all bees in front of entrance.
When bees are inside, Queen is trapped outside with 10 workers.

If you have a mesh floor, do not let it go under mesh.

So you don't think it necessary to thin down eQC incase the colony swarms on them?

I answered your question in post #1. I can't actually remember the last time time I encountered emergency cells -and I have quite a good memory.....
