Commiserations to those of you North of Watford who are suffering from the storm and floods. I should think you are all battened down to await its passing ... though I see on the BBC news that there was some nutter cycling across the Forth road bridge ... Just damp and dismal down here in Hampshire but it looks awful in the North. Good luck everyone !

Ummm.
Flooding expected round the coast to the Solent, Shoreham, etc ...

Looks as though Sandwich and the river Stour almost up to Canterbury might be particularly badly hit.
And there's a Flood Alert for the whole of Romney Marsh ...

It ain't going to be only "North of Watford" that suffers.

// And my fingers are firmly crossed in the hope that the map of the coastline round the Wash remains unchanged and that the Fen folk are safe. There are now 35 warnings posted for "Severe flooding with danger to life" in the Anglian area.

:iagree:Not just North of Watford as has been said. We've got a long planned trip to Woodbridge in Suffolk tomorrow, leaving dry (for once Devon) to visit sister in-law pre Christmas. it could be an interesting journey. Back down on Sunday so we'll spend more time on the road than visiting!! I'm sure you've done all you can to protect your bees and please keep safe yourselves.

Tim.

After trampoline moving winds here this morning in Oldham that trashed various structures on the allotments (They're not called blowaways for nothing though) all hives present and correctly stood up.

My poor son at uni in Huddersfield is without internet (and electricity).

good luck to all beekeepers on the East coast.....
I'm old enough to remember b/w tv from 1953

5ft over the quay at Wells, over the top also at kings lynn, Wisbech and Sutton bridge.
As usual people going for a look getting in the way.
Don't know anyone affected but good luck to all

Blimey you were posh, a telly in 1953 :)

I know but I wished we weren't living in a tent....

ERRRRR thanks for that itma, just saw your post had a look and im in the firing line here near shoreham, they show shoreham airport as being at risk what they don't say is there are gaps all alone between it and us under the railway line where the water will pass if it floods, and we are 8ft below sea level, Looks like we might have a late night here, 1am high tide.

... and we are 8ft below sea level, ...

Ooooo.
Fingers crossed for you.
Had the warnings not been circulated that flooding was "expected" in your area?
Surely worth getting offline and shifting the most important then the most valuable things upstairs?

The bbc has a 'live' news page with the latest reports, (rather than the recycled clips on their news channel) seems like the best way to keep up to date

Be sure to check in tomorrow.
Meanwhile find your torches, and charge your batteries (floods mean powercuts), maybe move the car to higher ground?

got plenty of beeswax candles lol.

no seriously im hoping we are ok. will go out later and have a check at the tide levels myself. hope they get it wrong as usual.

On the Environment Agency website *map* http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/142151.aspx

they say this for you
Shoreham Harbour

Time and date of high water 01:00 on 06/12/2013 Predicted astronomical tide level 3.32 mAOD Forecast surge height 0.65 m Forecast high water level 3.97 mAOD Forecast high water level in Chart Datum 7.24 mCD Forecast wind direction North westerly Forecast wind strength Force 4 Waterfront properties particularly around the A259 near the old Parcelforce site and the Houseboats could be affected by the overnight high tide. High water levels coupled with a storm surge mean that there is a likelihood of property flooding occurring. The impacts are not expected to be widespread. It is recommended that any property protection measure you have is deployed before the high tide. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and update this message as necessary.
So it looks like they expect it to be localised ...

the map itself shows that the whole of shoreham airport is on red which is a little up the river. All I can say is thank god the river isn't in flood at the moment otherwise we would have had that to contend with aswell , its been very dry for the last couple of weeks so the river level upstream is low at the moment.
