Finally girded my loins to extract the 11 supers I took off during the week.

Firstly the good news - full of a deep golden thick honey that is certainly the best I have tasted.

The bad news: it is an absolute pig to extract ( its not crystallised, but almost seems slightly thixotropic). What does come out comes out as large globs, rather than the threads of more runny honey. I've got 4 supers in the warming cabinet that I am am praying will extract OK in the morning.

If it doesn't, then plan B might involve a honey press............

Any ideas about what forage produces this?

You know that nag in your avatar, well it seems to just stall in mid air every so often, thought you might like to know that,if you don't already.

Doesn't stall with me, but is beginning to irritate. Time for a new one methinks.

I like it, too, but I thought it was a sheep

Nice one Pete , you had me going for a whilr there ;)
It probably stalls on your set up waiting for the buffer :)

.

Are you near the Heather? That honey is the only thixotropic one I know.

:iagree: If it sort of extracts, its probably partly heather- are some of the supers worse than others?

Yep, stalls on mine too, occasionally. Never noticed it until now. Any part of the cycle including on the ground (most of the cycle it's airborne, so only noticed it 'hit' the deck once). Don't change it, it a cracker.

Many thanks about the entirely relevant discussion of my avatar in my hour of need.......;)

I was about to say no heather anywhere near, but just looked up google earth and realised that Bisley/Pirbright ranges only 2 miles away and there is a lot of heathland there. Not very up on my heather species, but I would assume a possibility. Might also explain why they are still bringing in a lot of forage at the moment...

Yup- some extract easily, some are the devils own job....

Yes, I have wondered if people always knew the word thixotropic or looked it up or heard it somewhere rather than saying it was gel but goes runny on stirring.

The avatar donkey or sheep is a bit odd as a representation of what represents a presentation of your presence.
