Opening up hive
I had to! Over the weekend I did a natural varroa drop check. No obvious varroa, but some defecation on the sticky board. Naturally I was concerned about possible nosema. Hence the necessity to check the health of the bees and combs.

Interesting statement there. Why did you have to? Were you going to do anything to sort out a possible problem? Or was it just for your own peace of mind? I suspect it was more to benefit you than the bees

My take on it is that there's nothing to be done just now other than to make sure they have enough stores. The bees won't thank you for messing them about unnecessarily at this time of year. It's only a few weeks till Spring!
