So, I have two colonies that have built up over the winter, one seems to be very strong (9 frames of brood and a super on, drawing out the frames) I am considering splitting it, but cautious as I'm unsure:

A. If it is too early
B. Would I get any honey out of that hive?

I know it is very early in the year still, but they seem to be doing so well!

Advice please....

Wait till queen cells appear and take two frames of brood and a frame of stores, make sure there's an unsealed cell on brood frame. Transfer to nuc box. Destroy all cells in full hive. It will set them back but will build up quickly. In nuc after seven days remove emergency cells and leave the nice sealed cell you selected. Ideally move nuc to new site when made up to avoid losing flying bees.

Fantastic, thank you. How far would it set them back, the main hive?
