Is this about time to remove the floor for increased ventilation ? or should i gradually open it prior to removal.

Are you talking about the inspection sheet that goes under the mesh floor ? If so .. this really only needs to be in place when you are checking for varroa.. take it out.

Mine are in all winter and out all through the back end of spring and back in again when the wind and cold weather kicks in..i have had no problems doing this so if it is not broken i will not fix it so to speak..
 
Leave it in take it out it makes little odds....All my new floors will be solid now anyway
 
That's what I love about the removable inserts...solid floors in winter... open in summer.
Bees will survive with open floors 365...they will also survive 365 with matchsticks propping open crown board. Neither I think are beneficial.
