Two weeks ago I had 2 sealed QCs in a hive where the queen is from May 2014 so I assumed they were considering superceding her since she's completed pretty much three full seasons. Last weekend both QCs were gone so I left them to it in the hope that the winning queen would be mated. Today, the hive has loads of BIAS, from eggs to sealed brood, which I thought was a little fast for a newly mated virgin. I went through and, sure enough, there was the original queen, marked & clipped. Given the state of the brood, she's clearly still up to the job, but I'm completely confused about the QCs. Any suggestions why they built & sealed QCs and then got rid of them?
