Apiguard is usually used at the end of the season after the honey has been taken off as thymol will taint any honey. Never used beevital products so can't comment but sounds not that effective - I'll leave someone who has used it comment. Personally I would go down the route of oxalic trickling near Christmas tto give them a good start to the season and leave Apiguard until end of August/September time.

I have a screened bottom board on my poly hive but do you need a sticky board to prevent the mites crawling back up? I thought this was only to measure the amount of mites in a hive?

Sorry for the basic question but I can't find anything anywhere

So if this is written perfectly, you have an inspection board in place on your hive and you want to know whether it should be sticky.
No mention why the board is in place, no mention of any treatment in progress, which is when inspection boards are used. No wonder you had random replies IMO.
