A woman has said of her satnav

Last week it took me on a horrendous journey through the Essex countryside to the M11 and North Circular Road instead of taking me straight onto the A12 and M25.

If she knew the way why listen to the bloody thing? Just goes to show that more and more people seem to have forgotten that their brain actually has the ability to think.

Who knows? Maybe there was an accident and/or the road closed, so a diversion? Sometimes sat nav diversions can be an asset.

They might also notice that most sat navs have a basic setting of "fastest route" or "shortest route". Fastest gets you the motorways and A roads. Shortest gets you a route through the byways and housing estates, which I'd put money on being the case here.

Maybe she's waiting for a satnav with local knowledge?

Mine always offers a route to work I know is horrible, so I always take a different route - I just keep it on for the traffic updates.

Mine gives the option of an alternative route, toll charges, traffic jams, accidents, time of day

I hate it when people go over to the right hand lane on a duel carriageway a mile before a roundabout, only to continue on the same road which can be achieved in either lane, they have followed the instruction "be in the right lane"

But, shirley, they would have been in the wrong lane if the right lane was the left lane? Filtering early is not a bad thing on occasions (like if the queue is a long one). Might also depend on their speed cf the speed limit, the lane instructions and the opportunity to change lanes at a later time?

I was able to remember where I worked..

People in Norwich dont understand lanes and filtering down to one lane after a junction. They'll cut across you on a roundabout and not give the slightest thought that there could possibly be another car beside them. And then there are those who really really really do believe that traffic on a dual carriageway is supposed to give way to them when they are joining from the slip road....

Not sure exactly where you live but I bet you know all the old A17 and how to miss the jams and holdups from accidents..

I understand that a loss of spatial awareness is a consequence of centuries of inbreeding..... :)

That may well be coming to and end now that we have a dual carriageway all the way from London to Norwich. People will be able to venture forth and multiply.

The access to the hinterland is now open to all, disease and pestilence will follow (probably)

The number of times that I ask "what aaarre you doing?" to a driver of a car in front, only to pass them and see that they are blinded by the light of a halfwit gizmo in front of their face on the windscreen in a position that if it were a chip would be an MOT failure.

I have a couple of 'SatNavs' on the boat - where they are extremely useful - but would never have one in the car. Completely unnecessary, in my view.

Mine not only gives alternative ideas on how to get to your destination, but points out places and items of interest, possible road hazards, incompetent drivers, poor dress sense and many other useful tips. I call her 'the wife'!
Sorry ladies!
What?......Oh come on.......you must have been expecting that one, eventually!
:sorry:
I know....I just can't resist it sometimes!......Help!

It's good to have one even if it's just for speed cameras, and places of interest when your in a different part of the UK

Asked wife to turn hers on tonight. A1 closed ahead. Sat nav re-routed us via a few slippery (frosty) lanes and back on beyond the accident. Don't know if we gained or lost, but likely better than a
long wait or a longer diversion. Has a useful purpose at times.

I get cross to when this happens but get really fed up with 'drivers' weeving into the outside lane to allow around idiots forcing their way onto dual carriageways!

Nothing much annoys me, except the people who cannot reverse when driving on many of the narrow single track roads around here, even if they only need to reverse ten ft, they simply cannot do it, so you have to reverse 400ft to allow them to pass, it is quicker than watching them perform hedge bashing exercises.
