I don't think I shall dare not inspect at the moment. My colony tried to swarm earlier in the year and is now reunited. They are building up lots of playcups this week, which was a prelude to the swarming a few months ago.
 
For urban Beekeepers surely it's not so much how many one can afford to lose as what effect a swarm will have on relations with the neighbours.

Your right. I provide swarms temporary accommodation in the sub-urban garden and those are checked regularly.
However I'm fortunate that the rest are now in rural locations
