Just curious as to how far/how long people travel for their out apiaries? Currently on a hunt for one for next year and wondering if I need to look further away from home. (Might be turning into a farmer stalker)

Mine is 6 miles but I have the advantage that its near to the LPG station where I fill the car up. So if I have to go and fill car up I also check the bees....

I have three in a roughly triangular layout. one at home, Carreg is about four miles away to the North West, Garn Cottage about three miles South of Carreg, then it's a five mile drive home from there.

mine is in my woodland around 40 minutes away or 35 ish miles

Well, I guess it depends. I have too many apiaries :) so my furthest are 1.5 hours away in 2 directions. But, they are arranged like a trap-line, so I can always work a number of apiaries in the same area.

My out apiary is 2.5ml away, I have been offered another just half a mile from home., in a south facing wood next to my cattle field. I would like one 3 miles + from all out stations, for moving and swarm collection.

My furthest is about 20 miles but as it's on the tip of a peninsula the weather is much drier = more flying days; the land belongs to friends and it's always lovely to see them, (and handy for a coffee!!); I have another apiary down the road that I look after for someone else; do one more of my own on the way back, and if needed, I "mentor" a beginner on the same route!

At the end of the day, it's down to how far you want/can afford/have time to travel.

But it's definitely worth hunting for an out apiary - good luck with the stalking!

Mine is 4 and a fraction miles from home by road.
As the bee flies it would be less.
But I know the bees don't fly that way, because from home they don't go up the (300 foot high?) escarpment, to where some OSR is grown that they have never found. The escarpment is only a mile from home, but the out apiary is a couple of miles beyond that.
Terrain between apiaries matters. Almost as much as forage and water.

That's good then - the one I've found is only a mile away!
