I'm talking about your frames, not your skills (never stopped anyone around here, least of all me...)

So I can get beautiful drone comb drawn on a bare frame (great for honey supers-I only use DN4 frames-but less good for brood). Worker-foundation starter strips just get gnawed, so I capitulate and put in foundation, that is then immediately drawn.

What trick am I missing to get worker comb drawn without foundation? It seems like a careful triangular way strip along the groove of the upper bar is going to lead to drone brood, and I have not needed it it anyway.

The bees in a natural situation without any foundation will on average have approx 20% drone comb. So if you introduce only a couple of frames without foundation the bees will build a high concentration of drone comb in an attempt to get up to the 20% mark.

I have added two frames of foundationless frames in a super today due to not being organised and having no foundation in stock. I'm interested to see whether they will build drone comb or fill with honey. No excluder

My bees in some hives are busy raising drones and in others, workers.. I RECKON IT'S THE LEYLINES...
