How much have you got in the way of ventilation? because my feelings are that with those covers on they will get quite warm. What then sometimes happens is that a lot of bees will gather around the outside entrance hole, thereby further restricting airflow from the outside.

I find that I have to split mine 2 or three times a year by replacing two frames.
I use four brood frames, two up two down.
Each time I get half a dozen or so bees that escape into the room but they just fly to the window and I get them with an electric spider catcher vacumm sucker.
 
on the sides of the brood there are two vents 2"x 1"
on the front there are 2 1/2 round vents on the super the lugs of the super frames has a 1/2" gap = 4 plus at the top when the jars are not on feeding them there is a mesh which slide across so the size of a standard 1lb jar x 2
this is a very well thought of (one of a kind)

must make should my wife is at church when i do something like opening it up
