I've used double brood maisiemore nucs when I've run out of full size boxes
I've made up supers and got some rent off them too.
I've noticed the beespace between the extension and the nuc body is off kilter but I added some metal runners which appears to have helped.
No substitute for a full size hive in the long term though
The material will suffer as you're separating the propolised components to inspect an equivalent amount of frames
