Hi All,

i'm a newbee here.

i'm looking for plans to build a 5 frame Nuc box that will take frames from a commercial hive that i'm getting from the mother in law for Christmas.

would it be just a matter halving the measurements regarding the front and back board of the brood box?

Thanks

Err No. The full size plans will include an allowance for beespace on either side of the hive. The Nuc will need the same..not half it. And it also depends on the make up of the end /side design...

I have done nucs that way. But the frames need space 5 x 35 mm + 5 mm + 5 mm.

5 mm is needed to the comb against the wall. Otherwise seam is too narrow.

So halving the box does not give two nucs. Two 4 frame nucs are possible.

Do not buy abelos commercial nuc, its a badly adjusted langstroth nuc with major bee space issues.
Maismore make a much better commercial nuc significantly cheaper and if you wait for January sales, cheaper still.

You can buy the plans for making several nucs from one 8x4 sheet of ply from beecraft, you can download the plans for £2.50. Should be easy enough to adapt the plans from national to commercial. I intend to do so soon.

Perfect, Thanks for the link i will have a look

Read this first The external dimension of Commercial bee hives are 465mm square. This is only 2.5mm different all round to the National bee hive (460mm square) . The Commercial frame has short lugs and the boxes have a larger capacity than the National bee hive.
And take a look at this

this is great information so much info on the bushman site.

Thanks Murox
