Nitrile gloves - supply and demand

My usual source for blue nitriles has put the price of 100 gloves up from £8.39 to £20.99 !

I know that some of these items are required by our front line health practitioners and the like and there may be a shortage but ...who is taking advantage of the situation ? Manufacturers or retailers ?

The ones I usually buy are Protec powder free .. I don't mind paying a bit more than usual in the present circumstances but 150% more is outrageous.

Any suggestions ? I'm not brave enough to go bare hands !

Order up some leather 1s or get some marigolds that can last a bit longer.

Yes ... I've just ordered some more - I use marigoilds with a pair of disposables on top to save the inevitable stickiness and propolis but 'er indoors has been using my nitriles for opening the mail etc. and has virtually run me out of them.

Might want to try AliExpress. It's just a bit of a chew as you need to click on a listing and choose which country of origin before you can see price and expected delivery date.

I'm also waiting the full duration on others.

They wouldn't be my usual source after that little display of profiteering. Get some more marigolds, I can normally get through a season before they break.

I also use JustGloves, and would recommend; however, even here, my "usual" (https://www.justgloves.co.uk/Nitrile-Gloves/Ansell-Touch-n-Tuff-Green-Nitrile-Gloves) have gone up over 30% over the last couple of months.

I think that is probably an understandable and reasonable flexing to the (drastically) changed supply and demand situation.

... Some crooks are seriously price gouging, though, and, if any of my regular suppliers try this, they can expect to lose my custom forever as the consequence of their greed and opportunism.

It's a judgement call. To some degree, you pays your money or you takes your chances.

Costs of manufacturing will have increased for most companies due to circumstances and that is magnified through the supply chain.
Unfortunately increased prices are another thing we must accept to ensure companies don't go bust and we still have competition between companies when we emerge at the other side of this!

Perhaps. Just as the UK was actually starting to take the virus seriously I happened to run out out of Isopropyl alcohol. I went to order some - it had more than doubled in price at every retail outlet I tried. Thats nothing to do with increased production costs, can't even argue 'supply and rip-off', it was too early on!

They mostly get used to keep anything sticky off my hands. Not looking to sell any, as the boxes are mostly opened and situated within sensible reach when required.

I usually keep a couple of boxes in stock as they are really useful for painting and dirty works in the workshop and around the home as well as for the bees.. since the virus however my stock has been depleted by my wife and son who, to say the least, are being very cautious about touching anything that might lead to infection. Rightly so as they are both asthmatics and my wife, like me, approaching 70, so very much in the vulnerable bracket. Fortunately, I found a nearly full box of gloves in the chamber of secrets that I did not remember leaving there .. age has its limitations ! I've also picked up these on ebay:

~ which, at £1.10 a pair, are about half the price of the cheapest Marigolds and even cheaper than the own label gloves. Tried them on and they seem fine - nice long cuffs - went on and off without tearing. Time will tell.
