We have just finished checking the hives Hive No 5 is an A/S from Hive No2, we found the new Queen but she just flew off the frame. Can any body tell me will she return to the hive or have we lost her. The swarm I caught 3 weeks ago is doing well picture below off the Queen think she Italian?

I had a Queen who flew off but she definitely found her way back

Good luck

i was told if this happens to just stand still with frame in hand and for a minute or two and dont close up the hive or anything and she should return okay.

You might want to check your hive dimensions as you shouldn't have wild comb attached to the side of the frame like that. Some thing isn't right.

Ideally the gap between the side bar of the frame and the hive walls should be no more than about 6-8mm. Almost looks like you have a Langstroth hive and your using National frames.

Hi mike its a hive I made in a very short time due to run out of gear not idea but beggers cant be well you know. I am making up new hives so the girls will have to put up with there poor housing for a week or two.

Italian, yes.

If a queen flies off, gently close up the hive and walk away. She SHOULD return.

Then clip her wing next time.

If she was mated from the hive in it's present location then she should return to it no problems . Unless of course she was clipped, in which case she wouldn't have flown very far .

Just checked picture. she hasn't been clipped so all should be ok :)

We made a floor a bit too deep, they built wild comb and filled it with drones. Handy way of checking for mites.
