I sit outside most bright days for an hour or so watching tghe birds and the bees. I notice all the different colour pollens going in and a thought struck me! how do we know when the bees are bringing in nectar.?

On a good flow you will often see them pouring back and landing quite heavily. There is a definite, and determined busy flight path.

......Also walk by the hives in the late evening and your nose and ears will let you know!

I was watching or reading something a while back about robbing but i'm not sure how true it is, if the bees are flying fast and more or less in a direct line to the hive entrance they are going in light, if they drop down in a sort of u shape and have to fly up before plonking on the landing board they are coming in fully loaded i know they will be variations to this, also i have looked at loads of pictures i have taken of the activity around the entrance and lots of bees look like there abdomen is fatter than some of the other bees, maybe full of water or nectar i don't know for certain.

They fly bum down due to the load. Instead of - they are \

PH

From my pictures PH some seem to come in thin and some fat most are nearly always --- flat apart from a bit of up and down flying till they are approaching the landing strip.

Have they got their legs hanging? Something else for you to puzzle over!
