They often do- will either go down suddenly or dwindle over winter.
I'm treating a colony with a 17% mite infestation so approx 5000 mites- it looked perfectly healthy with solid brood pattern and produced over 200lbs honey this season.

I think some cold weather's in order it will slow them down .
Mite count on three hives is in the thousands I'm on week 4 today it has started to slow a bit .
The more that you see on the inspection board the better!
Not all mites are black either they can be Reddy/brown.
Get your self a magnifying glass they help.

thanks....that was WITH a magnifying glass

need to wear those reading glasses i bought and never wear

thought id phtograph and zoom in instead, still hard though

I use a magnifying glass and my varroa have a slight sheen to them and a redbrown colour to them. The little teeny pieces of black debris are not varroa. Maybe try google imaging them to help you identify.

I'm the same my glasses make me feel sick so I don't where them.
I like the idea of taking pictures you would have a record without having to right shis down all the time

Millet

i dont understand that either

when i opened that hive, they all spilled down both sides of the hive and i wonder if it was some young ones that clung to underside of OMF because they coulndt find their way back in or something...

Pic of a varroa from out inspection board, close up and stuck on some sellotape.

If it's any help this is one my boards 48 hours post vaping. Shows how effective vaping is when done correctly. The varroa are pretty obvious.

Just wondering some of the younger mites are they a white colour.on one of my trays there's small mites that are whitish.
I suppose what I mean is when varroa hatch are they that colour in the picture .

Immature mites are white, they redden with time. Ist vape usually hits the mature phoretic mites.

So my varroa treatment is killing both then that's good to know thanks.
