I guess that would work.

When I spoke to the BS guys they said they had been having difficulties in getting the plugs not to leak when trialling various options.

But they settled on tapered holes and tapered plug (using a soft silicone) and had left syrup in a test feeder for months with no leaks whatsoever.

The solution they have does seem to work well

Alternatively you could just buy a poly nuc eke from Maisemore.
But where's the fun in that ;)

Eke probably costs half the cost of a whole new nuc!

PS - I hate EKEs

Oh, there's still fun to be had, as the eke requires modification to be used to feed fondant.

Not sure how you add your fondant to Maisies nuc's. I just stick a slab on top of the frames, so for me, no further modifications necessary.

Unless theyce started making another eke than their 14 x 12 one. You have to remove the tabs that blank out the standard national frame rebate.
Unless you are using a super as an eke ?

I don't actually possess one, so unsure what you mean. From the pictures on the web site it looks as though you simply fit the eke on top of poly nuc (instead of feeder) and add fondant.
I'm obviously missing something here.

Addendum.....I think I see what you mean...they won't fit onto a nuc as an eke without removing the tabs?
If so describing them as an eke is a poor description.

The ekes do need modification to fit if used as a fondant eke on a standard nuc as they are designed to have smooth continuous end walls when used with 14x12 frames. They have a lug which sits on the frame rest for standard national brood frames - this needs to be removed if the standard national brood frames are in place.

I modified one to use when using a sublimox

The modified eke also fits a paynes nuc if you trim the side wall.

Yes, but it's not even that is it?
It's an extension for a Maisies Nuc to take 14x12's frames. It needs adaption to act as an eke.
A reasonable description of an eke is an "empty" box that sits on top of your existing frames to give you space to place fondant/varroa treatments etc.
This does not do this, unless you modify it.

14 x 12 adapter would be more accurate for sure.
Its only 30 seconds with a stanley blade to make it an eke though.

I thought it was pretty explanatory - It's an eke to convert a standard nuc to take 14x12 frames - from the definition of eke - to draw out, increase, enlarge, lengthen

What do you call a 9mm spacer to lift a qx above the frames in a bottom space super/ brood box... an eke?
OK... I would call a spacer to convert a standard National brood box to a 14 x 12 an abomination.... and I have not even had a G&T yet!!

Roof overall depth its just over 10cm, I reckon the actual insulated part of it is just over 3cm.
