"1/8, series 1
Bury at the bottom of the compost heap all suggestions that this is merely a warm-up for BBC2's Gardeners' World (8.30pm). An extra gardening show, especially one with Alan Titchmarsh at the helm, is as welcome as daffodils in spring. Rather than visiting sprawling country estates or grand public spaces that common gardeners can't replicate, he focuses on Britain's domestic gardens and, after a chat with the proud owners, re-creates the look with minimum fuss. It's what Titchmarsh does best: straightforward "how to" gardening. He starts with the suburban garden - often little more than a patch of lawn with a couple of flower beds used and abused by the local cat population - and shows how to make it the envy of your neighbours. Also on hand are food expert Valentine Warner, who demonstrates how a suburban environment is ideal for keeping bees, and wildlife expert Charlotte Uhlenbroek, who wants to encourage wildlife in her garden to work in harmony with domestic pets"
