aircon units are going full belt with me this evening. By the flight patterns (and the smell) it seems that some colonies have found the heather whilst others are hammering the balsam

Spent another day working on the workshop roof next to the apiary - can almost get drunk on the smell of ripening honey ... here's hoping - another week of this lovely weather ... and I reckon there might be a fair bit more stocked away.

Mine will come off in September when I use Apiguard.

just took my last supers off to day, will treat all my hives this weekend for varroa

I will have extracted what little honey I have by Thursday and started removing supers, - undersupering all hives (to reduce wind disturbance).

Lots of balsam but the yield is not enough to fill supers.
Ivy is a pipe dream here - far too late (October) when it's cold..

There's a Low coming through this weekend but it's meant to be an interruption to this decent spell (and will help flows). I reckon it is NEXT weekend that is the traditional start to autumn so, with aircon going under strong hives at night (old man's beard, probably), I am going to push my luck a week or so.

Yes ... mine are still going full pelt and there's a bit of rain coming in fro Thursday so I've delayed as well ... had a peek at a couple of hives and they are still filling supers so looking like next week for me and then another look - nothing in beekeeping is ever cast in stone - flexibility is the name of the game (at least as far as hobbyists are concerned !)

Took two supers off no 9 hive and one off no 4 this morning. The remaining supers on the other hives are still not quite ready. Another week or two should see an improvement. A shake test was quite messy on the work in progress hives.
The supers I took off were almost fully capped and shaking showed the uncapped portions to be ripe. Most of the frames in them extracted readily but one or two contained crystalised areas. I will give these back to the bees amongst their winter feed. The honey is being filtered as I type :)

Taking off by jingo! just been putting them on some of my hives this afternoon!

Here even the ragwort has gone over and the slashers have got the Balsham three years running,

All the comb around capped honey in the supers is as dry as a bone and i want it all off to feed them inverted sugar before the ivy come on heavy

I averaged about 75lb per production hive but blackberry pickers (and that includes the Bee Widow) are maoning as the crop is very poor cos the bees did not get out to pollinate them

Looks like there will be a good crop around us - although the blackberries around Carreg apiary are still in full bloom and going strong
