Done a few quick searches on making a hive with larch, from what I can gather other than it being heavier than cedar (not an issue at this stage of life) any other problems? Stability and the like? The timber is spare and free

If the size and thickness suit the job then it would be fine, assumed it's been seasoned, and not just pieces of tree. It will be roughly similar to spruce or pine. It will eventually rot unless painted or stained, unlike cedar which doesn't rot.

Bees and teak mix alright but you ain't 'arf going to make your hive HEAVY.I once made some hives from some nice Larch boards - very durable but so heavy I could hardly lift them.I.m surprised if your neibours shed collapsed if it is made of teak, could it have been made of afromosia -a teak look alike but not very durable as it doesn't contain the natural oils like teak."
