Hi, just been to the hive after inspecting last Tuesday (it's a nuc that went into a 14x12 brood box 3 weeks ago), all looks good with plenty of brood and lots of bees (and space) but I found the following halfway up the edge of a frame -

Any ideas as to what it is?

Thanks, I sort of assumed it wasn't a QC since it was on the side of the frame but I thought I'd check. Will keep an eye on it.

Queen cells appear anywhere, even to the side of frames, particularly in spaces where the bees have chewed the foundation away. That's why QCs sometimes get missed when a hoard of bees protectively cover it over.

Looks like an old play cup. Personally I remove them as I tend to find if they are preparing to swarm or supercede they will build a nice fresh new one anyway.

Keep you eye out for something that looks like this and when you can see a lavae in it like the 2nd photo
