May be that a supercedure cell was cleared out if the larvae died. 1 QC and a Slow laying queen sounds more like supercedure. My colonies on point of swarm have always thrown 15+ cells

Well 3. Potentially 4. But I think your point still stands. On the face of the comb and certainly not in the teens.

I'm guessing if there is a virgin in there they will fight it out or tear down the cell when she finds it.

I guess I should just stop opening up and hope no swarm in the neighbours chimney!
 
At least when I got it wrong and mine swarmed they went into my own roof. Pain in the arse smashing my own kitchen roof.
