seriously - a kilo may seem much too much in first year but after a bit of exponential growth in colony numbers it'll soon by needing replacing. Not sure how many 1kg tubs Pete (HM) gets through in a season.
I suspect that Hivemaker doesn't use an awful lot of it, despite his large holding of colonies. The amount require in the stock solution for adding to syrup is pretty much minimal.
Porridge comes to mind as a good food to add it to.
