I'll need to buy my first bee suit soon, but how do I gauge what size I need to get?
Is there a shop in London where I can go and buy one directly and maybe try it on beforehand?

Fortnum & Mason are plugging bees too!

They work in the usual sizes and the makers usually have a size chart explaining what their S, M, L, XL etc mean in chest sizes and leg length.

How tall are you? That's the important bit. I'm sure the size charts on the websites of various suppliers would give you a good idea.

Ok, thanks. Somehow I was expecting a different size chart as it's something that goes over one's "normal" clothes.

I am 5ft 7in tall - 44in chest - 32in waist - 72kg and no fat belly , most of my clothes are medium so i bought a medium bee suit, that bee suit fits my lady friend and the large one fits me, don't forget to go baggy though. ;) it will help with stings.

Bragging? :p

I'll have to look at a 3XL then. For height an 2XL is very much enough (I'm 175cm and it says up to 183) but I have a 46" chest which would leave me only 2 inches of margin.

On a bad point i have a head like a pea :D so i sometimes have to wear a wooly hat to stop the veil sliding about.

I tried on several other peoples suits at my local association before I bought my own. That was a second hand Sheriff suit bought from another member who was giving up. I got a good few years use out of it.
I have recently treated my self to a brand new one, cheap on ebay. I wish I'd stuck to a good name. My suit sort of fits my arms and legs but the middle seems to be a very tall persons shape and with a very fiddly neck fastening arrangement. Next time I shall buy a better make.

If you're buying a cheaper suit you may find they're quite a slim fit. If it's tight around the torso then the cheaper zips can pull apart quite easily, so it is a good idea to make absolutely sure there's plenty of room for movement.

I have bought a cheap one on eBay. According to the description it should fit me. If it doesn't, it should fit my brother when he comes to visit me, so no worries there.

go at least one size bigger than you need.
Harder to be stung through a loose suit.

hmmm,
does that make you a bad beekeeper, or a hardened mentor.

Use a good company and speak to them - they know their sizes and will be able to advise you appropriately. It's not worth skimping on a bee suit - buy the best you can afford and it'll last you well.
