I removed the queen from a tetchy colony yesterday and squished her - I know that's what one is supposed to do, but it just does not feel right, particularly since she was such a great layer. Anyway, I have a mated, marked & clipped laying queen in an apidea who I have earmarked as a replacement. When can I introduce her? I thought 24 hours but I'm just not sure. And do I need to go through the BB to remove all started QC's or can I assume she'll do it?

You can introduce her now.
I would take them all down, it does no harm to make sure that there can be no possible competition, and keep checking until she's accepted..

Being able to spot and identify eggs is a valuable and necessary skill
Squishing queens is another

sooner the better - I introduce a new queen immediately after despatching the old one or at the most within an hour.
Trouble is now they might have started making emergency QC's

A few cups but nothing serious, all torn down. HRH installed in a cage, hopefully acceptably. The bees were tetchy before but they were really angry today - hopefully requeening will cause them to calm a little.

Usually I have some kind of insurance, too late for you now but esp at this time of year I'd make a nuc up with the old queen, a big hive of angry bees are sometimes difficult to introduce a queen into. Then if all else fails a reunite and at least you have something. I like others introduce straight away as if you miss one qc, its likely to cost the queen.

If introducing into a brood box with no supers present. Place a piece of newspaper over the feed hole a d slide the bottom of the apidea away and place on newspaper. Works well. Definately remove emergency cells. I know youhave introduced your queen in a cage but newspaper method works for me.

Bit late now, but usually around an hour is fine, then for a laying queen, introduce her direct onto a comb of brood among the bees.

I was told 12 hours for a bought caged queen by the guy who sent it.
