I've got through a couple of cheap ones but have recently bought an Abello one, so far so good.
I've also re-faced a couple which seems to be working, basically rubbing the gate flat on some fine wet and dry sandpaper to take any curvature out.

There are honey gates and..

It would be helpful if you said I have tried plastic gates or metal ones for instance?

The adage holds, you get what you pay for.

If a plastic one with the black O’ring seals make sure you tighten equally & don’t over tighten.

The problem is you are trying to fasten a straight edge to a curved barrel. You need plenty of spare rubber to deal the gap! Use a big fat o ring.

Sorry enrico, I have found on one of the ones I have, it leaks through the gate not the housing attached to the bucket. As above for fixing as I have never found a suitable o ring for the Chinese ones I bought. Although I have found tightening both bolts works.

You need to make sure both of the screws are as tight as possible before you put any honey in it, so tight that you couldn't open it to get the honey out without loosening the screws.

I have overtightened mine. Solved the problem by cutting out a plastic disc from an ice cream tub to fill the gap! The rim to the top of the tub acts as a "pull out" before opening the valve - hope it makes sense. I figured a second tap would soon go the same way!
