I have two questions if anybody can help? PLEASE

1. hive No 1 had clear honey last year with a lemon after taste this year the honey is cloudy and much sweeter?

2. Hive No 5 when we looked today the roof inside was covered in mould and the crown board was wet.

I made the floor myself I think there is not enough air flow so I put on a brought floor hopefully this should do the trick.:willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

Is the roof ventilated?
There should be (a little) ventilation of the space between the crownboard and roof.

Are you using a "crownboard" that has a hole in it? / feeder or clearer board strictly ...

/ and is the roof watertight?

If the jar on the left represents last year, and the jar on the right this year then it's a fairly accurate representation.
Other than that sorry I don't understand the questions.

I was thinking more of quantity! every year varies in quality, depends what flows and what doesn't.

Jar on left looks like it is fermenting with all the bubbles on the top

Sorry it was the last dregs from the bucket so it has some foam on top but the rest of the super that we extracted is the same colour? and its very sweet

Why would you expect it to taste the same is the real question.

It will vary year to year as some species do better than others, farmers change rotations... on it goes.

I have had 2 hives next to each other that have had different colour/tasting honey.

This year around here, Rose bay Willow Herb was almost a month late , bees were already working HB when RBWH started flowering , I haven't noticed the bees anywhere near it ! Once they get fixated on a particular crop yielding nectar in huge quantities (HB) they tend to stay with it .
As PH says , no two years are alike :)

I'm hoping the darker late honey of last summer is just delayed as my missus hates the straw colour stuff I have so far...

I think it must be the same down here in South-East Cornwall a friend has had the same with her first lot taken off? Do bees like Hemp as we notice yesterday walking out at Rame-Head lots of insects and butterflies and bumblebees on it but no Honey Bees.

Yes, I've also had 2 hives next to each other with very different honey. one much lighter and milder, the other darker and more intense.

Will be interested to see what this year's is like!

R & J, did you check any of the two years honey with a refractometer, to check water content as a %?
