Morning all

Someone ask me what type of honey bee i had, and the only answer i could give was a blank look. I know there are many types of honey bee but i don't know how to identify Buckfast from a British Black.

Any ideas?

Richard

Google will throw up some pictures for you.

Although most bees, if you haven't bought in a queen, are mongrels.

The fact that you couldn't answer the question means they are almost certainly mongrels.

Take a look at this http://www.coloss.org/beebook/I/subspecies-ecotypes for a description of the methods used to identify which race of bee you have. You probably can't perform this sort of analysis yourself.

I agree, anyone who has spent the extra to have pure stock makes sure they tell everyone :laughing-smiley-014

I have Welsh colonies except one that is mongrel or a legal immigrant [emoji4]
