Hi i am new to bee keeping hence me being on here.
I have had a couple of issues in the last week i.e Swarming.I have been suitably reprimanded for not carrying out an inspection earlier.
So anyway i/we managed to catch a swarm.Great!
But i also had a smaller swarm attach itself to the lower part of my hive a week after.
That was Tuesday
My bees have also become aggressive so they now have to be moved as a couple of people have been stung this week.
I have been to check them today to get ready to move them tomorrow.
What i have found is about two inches/50 mm from the entrance where the small swarm had attached itself there is now a small hole which bees are now using.
The existing entrance is being used and so is the newly appeared hole
The hive is/was in condition and is a year old and made from cedar.
I have tried to find something info on this to find out what is going on.
Can anyone shed any light?
Thanks
Stephen

Is there a hole in the mesh floor, or has a knot fallen out? Underneath the hive was it a small swarm with a queen? Otherwise they could have been bearding. After your hive swarmed how many queen cells were there? They do get tetchy while requeening.

As above, they can get feisty when requeening, so the move is a good idea in the circumstances. I would permanently fill up the new hole. What sort of entrance block do you have and how big was the original entrance.

To move, just before dusk tonight I would block all entrances by turning the entrance block or using a piece of foam, and gaffer tape in place. Do you have open mesh floor? Put two straps round the hive to hold boxes roof and floor in place. Move first thing in the morning. It will have to be more than about 3 miles, otherwise they will just return to the original site and be even more feisty as there home will no longer be there. When in the car have the frames running front to back, so they do not swing when you brake etc. Let them settle for half an hour then open the entrance.
Sorry if you know all this.
I do not know why the new hole, just know that two entrances will make life difficult.
