I'd go for on the shed, then you wont be in their flight path.

Make a tall screened enclosure, perhaps using one wall of a shed. It will make them fly up rather than along. Make sure they're nowhere near the path, and not too close to other plots.

A solid screen on all sides would make the hive, or hives, less visible to casual browsers who may be looking for something to take home with them.

I think putting them on the shed would make inspections difficult, plus it doesn't look that strong. I'd go for the north-west corner by the greenhouse, facing south-east, with a big screen in front of it to get them up above head height. Minimal useful space wasted and pointing in the recommended direction.

I concur with the other beekeeper. You could put a few hives facing towards the tall hedge where the ducks are at present. The hedge will push the bees' flight path up and stop them from bothering anyone on the adjacent plot, and the site is away from the paths.

The ground will be nice and clear thanks to the ducks, so you can sow grass or pave it as you see fit.

Have you red the other thread on rules for allotment beekeeping? Many of the suggested rules (insurance via BKA membership, evidence of experience or mentoring, duty to make sensible swarm-reduction efforts, etc) are very sensible and you should aim to comply with them because it looks as if they are spreading around the country!

I don't think they meant ON the shed!!! I agree with beejoyful
Xx

You are absolutely right ....... My humble apologies

:iagree:
Tucked in next to the greenhouse - the greenhouse could also be used as a safe observation area if you want to show off the bees to some youngser

would bee right next to path then but screening would be easy but the ducks and chickens were surposed to be moving there is quiet dark and damp in those corners.
shed is strong enough
no one poo pooed my bee tree house yet or is it just so rediculious you guys are just egnoring it?
many thanks for replys so fare!

Tree house is a completely daft idea, IMO.

You need a surprisingly large amount of space to work a hive comfortably and safely - 8'x6' minimum, I would say. Remember to add extra space for extra colonies artificial swarms that you aren't planning to have...
Also, you need a sturdy ladder or staircase to move heavy supers safely.

It's not totally impossible, but the amount of materials and engineering needed to build something workable would put off most sane people.

That allotment site looks very familiar. Whereabouts in the Northwest are you? East Lancashire?
