Finally painted my hive and nuc, forgot how much I hated painting!

Painted with hammerite garage door paint...leaves a really solid coating. Found some folk frowned when it was mentioned but im really happy with it!

Think my main mistake on reflection was that I was acting like a child when they arrived and just wanted to get them together asap...should of painted, then built to save spending time masking the inner surface faces. On the other hand it could of made the job of sliding the frame runners on difficult as they were really tight and it may have given the paint a beating when trying to bash it together. 6 of 1 and all that!

Just thought id show off the results incase anyone else was wondering what to paint poly hives with..

opinions welcome!

A) Solvent based paint melts the surface of the poly slightly, apparently forming a more tougher durable outer suface. Like i say im happy with it.

B)not sure could of been wind? Colour blind people might trip over it being green...your guess is as good as mine lol

Looks nice.
After a week to let the paint really harden, rub all mating surfaces with wax - bees or candle - to prevent sticking. (You could use Vaseline but v messy)

If the painting is done properly ie not painting the load bearing surfaces there is no need to mess with waxing or vaseline.

Bloody expensive paint to use too. Emulsion or gloss is fine.

Keeping it simple is so much easier.....

The finish is very strong and resists scoring, abrasion,UV and drops ( From experience).

More than can be said for emulsion..

I am pointing out that emulsion works. Cheaper too.

If you like expensive paint than go for it but Hammerite ain't cheap and some are on very tight budgets.

Could be quite costly painting more than a few hives. I'll stick with Cuprinol Shades.
I must say that you've done a good job though
