Hello
I am planning to have a hive this year, I would love some links to sites for basic resources i.e. gloves, clothing, smoker etc. or is Amazon the place to go?

Thanks

I buy a bit from everywhere, this time of the year winter sales are on and some have not yet even begun.

Ebay and Amazon are usually good for the basics, you find that some retailers sell through them such as Simon the Bee Keeper so you can quickly compare prices. Things like hive tools which come from China are particularly cheap and the likes of nitrile gloves you can source from non specialist retailers.

Some of the beekeeping retailers, I've used all below except Paynes:

Abelo *10% off until tonight
C Wynne Jones
Maisemore * Sale starts 2nd January
Paynes
Simon the Bee Keeper
Thorne

A good thing to do is apply for the Thornes catalogue. At least that explains what everything is and what you need in a basic kit.
Do you have any experience at all with a hive of bees?

Are you planning to put bees inside it? :biggrinjester:

Jersey isn't that big, you should ask other Beeks in the area.

Whatever you get will be 16.5% cheaper than the mainland so cost isn't going to be the biggest issue, + I expect you can look to the East
Main issue I would expect is going to be the existing population (both Bees & Humans). If you import & introduce something not wanted by the other locally confined beeks there could be trouble.

Their a very welcoming crowd. You wouldn't go wrong with having the help from a mentor in your first year.
