I am a junior beekeeper of 1 hive in the south of England who is a bit of a novice but has been keeping bees for over two years now.

I currently have a prolific hive and am taking steps to avoid a swarm(regular checks and if necessary a split).

Welcome .. the South of England is a big place .. being more specific means you'll get more "localized" advice.
Keeping one hive if fraught with risk .. I always recommend new beekeepers try and run 2 if they can..

Welcome, keep checking in, you will pick up loads of ideas and help to confuse you!

When you say "junior", does that mean you have a senior on hand who tends more hives in the same apiary?

If not you might consider splitting the colony as part of your swarm prevention? Obviously costs would have a bearing on your plans.

Yep have just split my hive, i now have one nucleus and one hive
