I have took a couple chunks out of the corner of one of my stored Abelo Poly brood boxes moving stuff around in the garage, they are only about 5mm deep but look untidy, is there a product on the market that i could use to fill this surface damage to tidy it back up.

I don’t know but will that expanding foam stuff work without destroying the polystyrene?

I use external polyfiller with good results, even had a colony eat themselves a new way out between two supers which I repaired with this stuff, once sanded and painted could hardly tell.

i used Ex poly filler and worked well but will try heat glue gun next

I lie the broken piece so the hole is vertical. Very lightly dampen hole with a wet cloth. Pour in a limited amount of 5 minute PU glue. This expand and sets. Repeat until the hole is overfilled. Sand/shave down so flat. Fill in imperfections with Wickes Wood filler (tubed). Sand flat.
Paint.
Very strong result...And lightweight.

Paynes sells a repair kit for its poly hives. That’ll work on the Abelo ones. I’ve tried it successfully.

Polyfilla. I believe the stuff paynes sell is supplied by swienty and it's no different to bog standard filler, I wouldn't fork out on fancy glues.

One thing I will say though Steve, try to be careful as possible with the abelo parts, they are more brittle than the other poly's I've used. I got the roofs because they are a good design and I noticed straight away that they chip very easily. I upturned one to look at a growing colony and didn't even stack supers on it. Bits of gravel/stone on the ground were enough to chip a bit out of the roof. With other poly's there would be a dent or a bit of a gouge but it's almost liked the beads broke apart rather than compress. Just one to be aware of.

I've wondered whether that extra density would make them more brittle. They definitely win the best depth poly hive roof prize though.

Thank you for that and everyone else.. ;) .
I wonder if a coat or two of decent rubberized floor paint would help protect them a bit better.

That sounds like a good idea.

When i get two minutes spare i will fix this damaged brood box with the recommended filler and source some decent rubber floor paint and paint that one to see if i get any bad reactions, if all is well i will sling it out of my car window whilst bombing down the motorway at 70mph and then ***** the damage if there is any.. :spy:
