The colony above my front door was thick with bees over the past few days - the noise was incredible - they were fanning their little wings trying to circulate air into their home.
Earlier they had ejected all the drones and prevented their return. The heat must have stressed them out.

My strong nucs were four thick in bees on the front yesterday afternoon.
Today, 10 degrees less, not a bee to be seen.

I had bees crowded in the full open entrance in the mornings, after 2 mornings I have a look in and found the hive rammed with bees, so put them on double brood, happy bees now. Would you be more concerned if the bees were crowding the entrance in the chilled early mornings?
