Is there any reason why I cannot leave some kilos of filtered honey I am about to extract in the honey tank, to dispense to friends who appear with their own jars, over the next few months? I have a close fitting lid. It's our 2nd extraction and our first year of beekeeping so not set up to sell yet. Actually I was thinking of a loss-leader for a year to get em addicted and will then start selling. It's not exactly going to go off, is it?

No, as long as the moisture content is okay, may set solid though, if it does you could re warm it, or serve it to your friends with one of those ice cream scoops.

I keep my "offcuts"......... top of settling tank, crushed left overs from cut comb, cappings (all filtered) in four pint plastic milk bottles. It keeps for ever there and I can top up my honey and that of friends with their own jars.

I suspect nobody would care if you're giving it away. Selling it is little different; weighing it in front of the customer involves the "trade" scales regulations.

I keep a tank of runny honey in the kitchen and regularly refill a couple of squeezy containers from it for home use - the children make less mess with these than with jars!

It's a great idea although a bit more hassle having to fill a jar rather than a quick sale especially if you are busy with something else at the time.

I know someone who supplies a green eco shop in a similar way a bucket with tap and the customers bring their own jar.

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I couldn't see a reason why not, just not seen it done.
