I am new to beekeeping this year. I have a hive (national) of bees in my garden from a swarm taken on May 6th.
They quickly pulled out 4 frames of comb and the queen started laying straight away.
However they are now still only on 8 frames. 4 of these are all brood, two are brood, pollen, nectar, capped honey, and 2 are just comb and nectar. (There are very few drones/drone cells.)
Is this a bit slow or typical colony growth?
Do I let them just carry on as they are or is there a way to encourage them to increase and perhaps give me just one frame of honey?
They are lovely, quiet tempered bees with minimal varroa drop.
I don’t mind being told to just be patient!
