Dead bees in the feeder, solved

After putting apiguard in the hive and feeding sugar water with hive alive we were having dead bees in the feeder. Advice was that we weren't fitting the feeder properly although we used it many times in June without any issues.
One comment online suggested that the Apigard contained thyme as did the hive alive and it may spur the bees to clear it out along with the Apigard, leading to drowning bees. So we cleaned it out and just used the sugar feed and thankfully no more casualties. A costly lesson but won't make that mistake again. Hope this was useful

I was advised by a few experienced beekeepers and a bee inspector and a person grin the Norfolk honey company who was brilliant the error was the hive alive the same time

I know. I try not to, but having my timing wrong have had to do both occasionally, and as you say both thymol and sugar were taken down. However I do try and follow manufacturers instruction.
