I have seen the historic threads about this phenomena but there doesn't appear to be a definitive answer for the cause. I have one hive that I know is currently queenless with a cell waiting to hatch out. If I am right it should in fact be today or tomorrow. I removed the supers today which contained OSR, when I returned the wet supers I could hear the bees crackling from about ten yards away. Most strange. Anyone got any thoughts?

Clearly they have put their feet up and are having a bag of crisps. They are entitled to SOME rest, after all...

They are waxing their legs, but when they move it cracks at the knees.

More likely they are eating the poly hive as some of my little Nuc darlings are attempting to do at present. Poly makes a crackling sound when they attack it.

I've heard it in my cedar hives!
