I now have the Chinese refractometer. The calibration instructions that come with it are very confusing. I even have the special oil and 'plastic block' supplied by the manufacturer. Some plain simple instructions would be much appreciated.
It should hopefully be calibrated already so you can leave it alone.
As a precaution you should decant some olive oil into a small bottle, label and keep safe for future use. Take a reading, note it down and you have a standard to use should you feel the need to check.
If you must fiddle with it just type refractometer calibration into search and you will be entertained all day

Chinese honey?this calibration oil provided with the refractometer doesn't half stink. Don't know exactly what it is, but it sure is volatile and has given me a headache.
