Hi,

any suggustions on what to do about bees building and storing brace comb in the eke I've put on for varroa treatment. The second tray is going on asap. There are 4 strips about 150mm long, 40mm deep. There are a couple of frames in the BB that are just being drawn ready for stores, the rest have capped stores and a small amount of brood.

Best remove them, easier to remove a small amount than a lot.

The bees will want to re build them if the conditions are right.

Just be careful that HRH is not on the comb before removing.

Yup, this happened to me last year, despite it being the standard eke for use during the treatment. I am due to put the second treatment on this week so will see if the same thing has happened this year. I think the bought ekes are a bit too deep. Keep meaning to make my own thinner one.

I took it off and put it on top of the crown board for them to move the nectar down to the brood. Then removed the empty comb.

i cut it off and stored it till after the apigaurd and let them rob it from above the crown board last week. got some nice clean brace comb now
