Having decided that a £hornes 14x12 Queen Frame Trap is too expensiveat £57, i thought of using a drawn super ( or part dummied down) with Queen Excluders either side as a queen laying area

so it would be

Roof and crown board
Honey Supers
QE
Trap Super with Queen dummied down wide wide dumies to four drawn super frames
QE
Old Brood box

Then do the three 9 day cycles to remove capped brood then move HM back to the brood box

any views if it would work or alternatives or critisms as this is just the musings of a grey haired old skinflint Beekeeper

personally i'd use the QE eke method - most of us need an eke for other purposes anyway (apiguard, fondant) so to make one for every hive that can hold a frame is a little extra work but for no more expense and does not produce extra equipment to store since it can be sat below or above crownboard for much of the year.
