In the interest of feedback, I used the airless sprayer for the first time yesterday and what an absolute joke of a machine.

Realised the masonry paint would need suitable thinning and didnt want to clog the machine so did a trial run of 25% paint and 75% water! Yes they are the right way round. Guess what... clogged it first go.

Finally go it unblocked and going at around 10% paint to 90% water and as expected its just washed off the poly!

In the end I washed them all down with a hose and let them dry out.

Went and bought some black, grey and green gloss from screwfix at £2.69 for 400ml and used 6 cans spraying 10 full hives with 2 supers a piece.

So worked out at about £1.60 a hive. Ok, so not cheap but bonded to the poly and took me about 20 mins compared to God knows how long using masonry and a brush.

I went for a camoflauge look but if I were to do it again, Id just stick to the dark grey and it gave a nice, neutral matt finish.

Thought I'd give it a gamble and see if it melted or bonded to it.. Quire happy with it to be honest. Bit more money but huge time saver

I
The Wagner will go through a 10L bucket of masonery paint in no time (I did about 40 Langstroth nucs out of 3*10L buckets of Sandtex )

Jeeze theres some serious wastage there( or you are putting it on insanely thick), ive just rolled 2 coats on 30 brood boxes with a 5 litre tub of sandtex.

Whether its a time saver is going to depend on how long it lasts i guess, but i do like the look .

A big big time saver is buy your hives and polys ready painted.....
They also come in green but not camouflage... ;)

I just think the abelo are too garish. Wouldn't like to keep them in any sort of visible position.

Were quite a bit more than the Swienty as well.

Definitely a time saver. Wish they did some more neutral colours

It's still just a bit too standout for me. doesn't blend in

I have hives within 20m of a road so it's not a straight comparison.

I found that thinning considerably helped when painting quantities of poly hives. Without, so much paint was used and it went on so thickly that huge amounts of paint were used. When thinned, it went on much better, smoother finish etc.

A nice touch was that everything downwind got a light coat of green spray...my truck, honey house, dog etc.

Painting was the quick bit. Time was taken restocking everything at angles to minimise contact between boxes and moving again before paint set. Inevitably there was a bit of sticking and occasional damage when parts wouldn't unstick easily. Still so much quicker than using a brush/roller. IMG_4101smaller.jpg
