Anyone got any surefire ways of getting bees out of hair?

My experience to date has been that if bees get in my hair (I'm a bloke, its quite short) they seem to bury deeper, panic and then sting, and I'm not going out in a beesuit to cut the grass or go down the garden!!

So how do I get them out quickly before they sting?? Any suggestions?

Seems to work if you've got long hair, but mines is too short to make any difference, and trying just seems to makes it burrow faster

as soon as one is in my hair trying to sting,i grab it between my thumb and forefinger and remove it.Never been stung on fingers doing this and it happens on pretty much a daily basis when the bees are out foraging and i am in the garden

A hat and veil (rather than full suit) might help.
I have a £5 (new) ultrathin pullover/veil/hat thing that lives on the back door for when I need to go particularly close to the hives.

ADDED - T's sell something similar for £8 as an "occasional jacket".

Try a hat or a scarf or buff which you can use as a balaclava or a beanie, etc.

Block them in at night and do the cut early'ish in the morning. Quickly suit up and release them.

Put an eight foot screen between you bees and your garden made out of screening mesh. They are going in you hair when you walk through their flight path, you want to get the higher than head height. My bees are at the top of my severely slopin garden and never have a problem.

I've got long hair, so the burrowing is worse. These days I kill it in situ with the fleshy part of my hand....hitting my head. I would rather be stung there than on my head or fingers. Seems a bit drastic? Well if you get it out alive it's one annoyed bee, so your probably going to be stung anyway. I also once dipped my head in a water butt. That worked.

You shouldn't try to get the bee out. It is in ' attack ' mode and quite determined to sting. If it stings it is going to die anyway. I regularly have to kill bees that have got into the hair of lady beekeepers at apiary meetings. A well aimed slap and job done. I am always thanked for hitting these women on the head!! Yes one dead bee but a sting avoided. Sometimes being a bloke has it's upside.

Quite so. I taught my 10yo daughter to do the same. The bee was ably swatted with the palm of her hand, and promptly fell onto her other hand stinging it. She was underwhelmed at having a fat hand for several days and hasn't done a check on her hive since!
