Box is a dadant brood old style (as in pre-varroa): solid floor, non removable.
Content is: one old drawn comb in a super frame and eight old brood frames stained with propolis and remnants of wax (wax moth had done a number on the wax itself). If I find some decent brood comb in the pile I have in the garage I'll replace the empty frames.
The position is south facing, well ventilated (so the smell of the hive should carry for a distance) and shaded by a tree in the hottest hours of the day. The owners of the land told me that on that barn, in an even older box (looks 40 years old) regularly got swarms and they were forced to seal it because they didn't want to deal with them. The old box was in the same position, only about a couple of meters to the left of where I set up this one.
What do you think?
